Imphal, June 09 2024:
Chief Minister N Biren has accepted responsibility for BJP's defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Reflecting on the outcome, Biren attributed the loss to failure on the part of both state and central governments to effectively address the complex issues fuelling violence in Manipur.
In a candid interview with Indian Express, Biren emphasised the critical role of Central forces in maintaining law and order in Manipur, while lamenting that their passive stance had contributed to widespread dissatisfaction among the electorate.
He underscored the need for concerted efforts to identify and address the root causes of violence, and emphasised the importance of understanding and addressing the core issues facing Manipur.
Addressing concerns over outside influence in the state s electoral process, he highlighted the role of external forces in stoking ethnic tensions and exacerbating communal divisions.
He reiterated the government's commitment to protecting indigenous communities from external threats, including illegal immigration and drug trafficking, and called for greater support from Central forces in these endeavours.
Looking ahead, Biren stressed the need for a change in approach and working style to effectively address the challenges facing Manipur.
He called on Central forces to actively support the state government's initiatives and help dispel misconceptions about its intentions, particularly regarding its efforts to address illegal migration and drug trafficking.
When asked about the Centre's response to the situation in Manipur, the CM expressed confidence that Central leaders would intervene and assist the state in bringing about a peaceful resolution.
He dismissed speculation about possible changes in the Centre's approach due to the BJP's dependence on allies, reaffirming his commitment to addressing the issues facing the state with conviction and determination.
Despite the electoral setback, Biren reiterated his determination to continue serving as Chief Minister, vowing to confront and overcome the challenges facing the state.
He dismissed calls for his resignation, asserting that stepping down would only serve the interests of those seeking to undermine the government's efforts to protect the state's interests.
In conclusion, Biren condemned what he termed as "dirty politics" and false promises made by opposition parties, reaffirming his commitment to upholding the unity and integrity of Manipur.
He dismissed attempts to divide the state or the country, asserting that such efforts were both misguided and impossible to achieve.
