Kuki-Zo meet sets riders for ceasing hostilities

Kangpokpi, April 01 2025: Kuki Zo leaders across Kangpokpi district have set three non-negotiable preconditions for cessation of hostilities.

The declaration was made on Tuesday during a consultation meeting organised by Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Kangpokpi at KBC Centre Church Hall, here, in the presence of Kuki-Zo Council, the apex political platform representing the Kuki-Zo people.

The declaration of pre-conditions comes ahead of the Ministry of Home Affairs' scheduled talks between the warring Kuki-Zo and Meetei communities on April 5 in Delhi.

During Tuesday's meeting, Kuki-Zo leaders asserted that cessation of hostility can only be achieved if their conditions are honoured.

The three pre-conditions for cessation of hostilities adopted at the meeting included no movement of Meetei individuals in Kuki-Zo-dominated areas and vice versa; initiation of meaningful and structured dialogue during the cessation of hostility; and to observe a sixmonth ceasefire on fulfilment of the aforementioned conditions.

The consultation meeting was attended by leaders from various Kuki-Zo civil society organisations, including Kuki-Zo Council, Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association, Kuki Inpi, student bodies, women s organisations, and tribal representatives.

Intellectuals, social activists, and other influential figures also contributed to the discussions.

All eyes are now on April 5 meeting, where the Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to facilitate negotiations that could shape the trajectory of inter-community relations in the region.
