Imphal, January 27 2024:
Even as India celebrated its 75th Republic Day on Friday, people of Manipur mourned the day by hoisting black flags to convey the message to the world that Manipur is still total darkness foe nearly nine months now, said Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM).
In a release, PPCM expressed gratitude to the people of Manipur for showing to the government of India and to the outside world that the indigenous people of the state are suffering due to the current crisis and that they condemn the prejudiced attitude of the government of India, by hoisting black flags at residences, shops, Meira sheds, clubs, markets, relief camps and public places on Republic Day on Friday.
Stating that the future of Manipur can be decided only when the people unite and take up decisive actions; the release said that now the people of Manipur cannot remain silent with the belief that the government of India will show the right path for the future of the state.
Though the people of the state had not been able to provide fitting reply to the miseries that people of the state have been going through due to the actions of the government, they (the people) have now started to confront India in front of the whole world.
The release further stated that the indigenous people of Manipur in general and Meiteis in particular have been seriously affected by the war waged by the Kuki-Zo militants during which thousands of Meitei houses have been burnt down and destroyed, ' many have been grievously injured while many have lost their lives.
However, the government of India has been turning a blind eye to the cries of the Meiteis.
On the contrary, the personnel of central forces who are deployed for protection of the land have been siding with those who are trying to disrupt the integrity of Manipur, PPCM alleged.
