Five persons injured in ILP rally

Five persons sustained injuries after police personnel fired several rounds of tear gas shells, mock bombs and rubber bullets to disperse a large number of people who took out a rally demanding enforcement of ILP in the State at Khangabok today, reports our correspondent.
Spearheaded by Meetei Inat Kanba.
Lup (MIKL) and Utra Meitei Inat Kanba Lup, Khangabok, a large number of people including members of local clubs, organisations and meira paibis joined the protest rally which witnessed a clash between police personnel and protesters.
Protesters rallied towards the National Highway.
They were stopped by police personnel after which a confrontation ensued.
To disperse the protesters, police personnel fired several rounds of tear gas shells, mock bombs and rubber bullets.
Protesters on the other side pelted stones towards police personnel.
Police personnel, Hijam Joykumar Singh from Thoubal Athokpam, also sustained injuries during the clash.
Thoubal SP Radhashyam, Additional SP Madhunimai, CDO Thoubal OC Anandakumar, Thoubal police station OC Inaobi, SDO Thoubal, SDC Thoubal and a representative of Thoubal Zilla Parishad also came to the spot to control the situation.
However, the visiting team was targeted by the protesters after which police personnel again fired tear gas shells and smoke bombs to disperse the people.
Five persons who sustained injuries today were Saikhom Boynao alias Leishemba Meetei, s/o S Ranjit Meetei, Ningthoujam Dingku, s/o Munal, Saikhom Hemanta Singh, s/o S Mahajon, Saikhom Ramesh Singh, s/o Ningthem Singh, Laishram Kiran, s/o Ningthemjao and Moirangthem Sunilkumar, s/o Samungou.
