Gangmumei Kamei Foundation expressed hearty congratulation to M Shenbangpu of Chingkham on being conferred the prestigious Manipur State Kala Akademi Award in the field of tribal culture by Governor Dr Najma Heptulla on January 28 at Maharaja Chandrakirti auditorium.
M Shenbangpu is a noted exponent of Kabui folk song since his youthful days.
He is a gifted talent with a golden voice who mastered the different folk songs of Kabui tribe.
He is a rare folk song singer with a niche for composing songs of varied types of Kabui traditional songs including devotional and hymns, said a press release issued by chairperson of the foundation.
Of late he has been actively involved with the Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak Phom for the protection and preservation of the indigenous Zeliangrong religion of which he is a vice-president.
He has contributed immensely in the development of the religious hymns of the TRC.
GK Foundation also thanked Manipur State Kala Akademi for giving due recognition to such a artist with deep rooted commitment for the preservation and propagation of Kabui folk songs, it added.
