Imphal, February 07 2018:
Condemning the alleged firing inside the house of one Laishram Biswarjit of Khurai Sajor Leikai, Tinsid Road by Khurai A/C MLA Leishangthem Sushindro (Yaima) yesterday evening, the locals and womenfolk staged a sit-in protest under the aegis of Meira Paibi Mothers Association (MPMA), Tinsid Road, opposite the residence of Laishram Biswarj it today.
Speaking to media persons, Laishram Biswarjit stated that he complained to the mother of MLA Sushindro, who also happens to be his neighbour, yesterday about the inconveniences caused by the protruding parts of the air conditioner units that were installed on the walls of the MLA's residence, adding that the wall was built as a fence line between his house and the MLA's residence.
Biswarjit said that he hired some masons yesterday and took down the air conditioners fixed on the wall after Sushindro's mother told him that most ofthe family members are out of station and he (Biswarjit) should do it himself but in such as way so as not to damage the MLA's properties.
However, in the evening (at around 5.30), MLA Sushindro entered Biswarjit's house, shouting and holding a gun, which he allegedly pressed against Biswarjit's head and body before firing two/three rounds inside the room.
Luckily the bullets missed and hit the floor instead, Biswarjit claimed.
Decrying that Sushindro's conduct was unbecoming of an MLA who has been elected by the people to protect and safeguard the public, Biswarjit expressed that he no longer feels secure or safe to even stay in his own home.
He also informed that a complaint has been lodged at Porompat PS in connection with the case while appealing the State Government to take up appropriate actions against MLA Sushindro for his wrongful act.
MPMA's general secretary, Lourembam Shantibala strongly condemned the act and said that MLA Sushindro's action amounts to making an attempt on someone's life although no one was hurt or injured in the firing.
Lamenting that there is no more righteous authority left to complain to about the grievances of the people, as the local MLA who is supposed to protect and safeguard his people, has turned against the public and started threatening to kill them, the general secretary demanded all authorities concerned to prevent such occurrence from happening in the future.
Meanwhile, another group of locals and womenfolk supporting MLA Sushindro, also staged a sit-in-protest in front of the MLA's residence at Khurai Sajor Leikai, condemning the charges levelled against the MLA.
Speaking to media persons, S Somorendro Singh, who is the PA to MLA Sushindro refuted the charges made against the MLA and termed the allegations as baseless and an attempt to tarnish the image of the MLA.
He claimed that the MLA was out of station when the alleged incident occurred and there was no such threat against anyone by the MLA and his family members.
However, there was an argument between some family members of the MLA and Biswarjit, as the latter stole the air conditioner from the residence of the MLA and destroyed it by taking advantage of the absence of people in the MLA's residence, Somorendro claimed.
The PA went on to inform that a complaint has been lodged at Porompat PS in connection with the case and claimed that two stolen air conditioners of the MLA have been seized by Porompat PS .
