Protest against PR, arrest of village volunteers continues

Thoubal, February 21 2025:
Protest demonstrations against the imposition of President's Rule in the state and arrest of village volunteers by security forces were held in different parts of Thoubal district by meira paibi activists on Friday.
A group of women protestors blocked half the NH-102 in Wangjing Keithel area and staged a sit-in demonstration to register their protest.
Meira paibi activists from Salungpham, Kairembikhok, Heirok, Wangjing and Tentha villages also organised a joint sit-in protest the same day.
During the protest, Salungpham Apunba Meira Paibi Lup president Thingbaijam Nganbiton Leima and finance secretary Maibam Thaba, stated that the ongoing 'civil war' in the state is mainly due to political manoeuvring.
They argued that village volunteers are the ones who have stepped forward to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur, and cautioned that arresting village volunteers and imposing President's Rule might lead to a third Nupi Lal in the state.
They then demanded that no village volunteer should be arrested for any reason, while declaring that the mothers of the state stand firmly with the village volunteers.
Meira paibi activists also organised similar protest demonstrations at .
Yairipok Keithel and along the Thoubal- Yairipok stretch in response to the arrest of village volunteers.
A large number of meira paibi activists from Yairipok and surrounding areas gathered at the Yairipok Bazar traffic point to protest where they raised slogans such as "Village Volunteers cannot be arrested", "Form a government immediately in the state" and "PR should not be imposed in Manipur".
The protestors also blocked vehicles of security forces by placing boulders along the highway.
