Imphal, March 12 2023:
The government of Manipur has withdrawn from the suspension of operation (SoO) agreement signed with the Kuki National Army (KNA) and the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) following the violent mass rallies organised in Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Tengnoupal against the government's step of protecting reserved forests, protected forests and wildlife sanctuaries.
A decision to this effect was arrived at during the state cabinet meeting held on March 10, which was attended by cabinet ministers along with top police officials.
During the meeting, the law and order situation of the state was minutely discussed and also noted that the rallies were organised for a cause which is unconstitutional and illegal.
Therefore, the cabinet decided to withdrawn from the tripartite talk with KNA and ZRA.
The cabinet meeting also noted that the rallies were organised under the influence of ZRA and KNA and that the leaders of both the organisations were of foreign origin.
The cabinet further reaffirmed that the state government will not compromise on steps taken to protect the state's forest resources and for eradicating poppy cultivation.
Show cause notices have been issued to the DC and SPs of Churachandpur and Tengnoupal for allowing the rallies in violation of prohibitory orders under CrPC 144.Strong action will be taken on the officers responsible for lapses in security.
