Kangpokpi, March 10 2025:
The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR), Sadar Hills, has vehemently denounced security forces crackdown against Kuki-Zo women on International Women's Day, March 8, in Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi district.
The human rights body stated that while the world celebrated International Women's Day on March 8, Kuki women in Sadar Hills faced the wrath of security forces, as their protest against free movement was met with "brutal force" .
At the protest, over 31 women out of more than 70 injured were taken to local clinics for first aid treatment.
In an even more serious incident that unfolded later in the day, 30-year-old Lalgouthang Singsit, who was among the protesters, was shot and he died on the spot, it said.
The use of brutal force is unjustified.
The security personnel responsible for the fatal shooting must be held accountable, stated Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights.
