Briefing media persons, Development Centre for Health and Social Service Keibung Wangmataba secretary Wahidur Rahaman informed that locals of Keibung Wangma Taba residing near the suspension bridge convened a meeting and denounced the non-repairment of the suspension bridge which is their lifeline.
He reminded that they have repeatedly apprised the authorities concerned on the urgent need to repair the bridge and also submitted a memorandum demanding the same to Thoubal DC on 'Meeyamgi Numit' in February.
However, no positive response has come forth from the authorities concerned till now.
To prevent potential accidents, the public have resolved to block the bridge and cease its use, Rahaman stated.
He highlighted that students would be particularly affected by the bridge's closure, as the Keibung Wangmataba LP Madrassa is located near its base.
He also mentioned that a bailey bridge was initiated under the RIDF scheme in 2020-21 but construction was halted due to some disputes.
Later, local MLA Alhak Abdul Nasir commenced work on a new bailey bridge under the PWD Bridge division, yet this too has been stalled due to ongoing conflicts in the state, he disclosed.
Rahaman then appealed to authorities concerned for completion of the bailey bridge at the earliest considering the plights of the people.
