Imphal, April 06 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee MPCC) president K Meghachandra has said that his party will play the part of a strong opposition in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Speaking at a felicitation function organised in his honour upon appointment as the new president of MPCC held at Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday, MLA Meghachandra asserted that BJP used money and muscle power to win the recent election.
Though Congress party was reduced to minority, the party will play the part of a strong opposition and stand for the people of the state and their rights.
He appealed to the party's supporters not to feel disheartened over the party's loss in the election but continue their support by providing suggestions and feedbacks so that the party could return to power.
It is up to the public to stand against the oppressive regime of the BJP government, which has managed to stay in power for the second term, he said.
CLP leader Okram Ibobi said that the election result was not the true public mandate.
It was a result of the might of the party in power, which used all means possible to grab power.
Despite the election result, there is no reason to get disappointed.
The party will work for the people of the state under the leadership of the new president, he said while assuring all out assistance from his side.
He said that maintaining peace and bringing development will be the major challenge for the new government.
The elected members of BJP are all power hungry people and one day they might shift their allegiance, opined the former CM, while pointing out many of them did not join BJP for any agenda or policy for the state and its people.
Only 12 Congress MLAs got ministerial berth when the party ruled the state with 42 MLAs and it resulted in discontentment within the party.
Likewise, BJP will face the same situation as two-third of their elected members do not stand any chance of getting ministerial berth.
Despite such situation, Congress would like to ask BJP to maintain peace and stop lying to the people, he said.
AICC CWC member Gaikhangam and other party leaders were also present at the event.
