Team checks NCD care at Thoubal facilities

A joint monitoring and supervision team of state and district officials on Tuesday visited health centres including District Hospital (DH), Thoubal regarding Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) screening and standard treatment/care of diabetes and hypertension patient.
The team visited the DH, Primary Health Centre (PHC) (Khongjom) and Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM), Langathel and discussed about strengthening the screening programme and appreciated the work of ASHA volunteers in motivating the public about healthy lifestyle and their role in screening of the population.
The team consisted of NCD state nodal officer (SNO) & joint director Dr Y Premchandra Singh, HWC SNO Dr S Sucheta, ASHA SNO Dr W Jubilee, WHO consultant Dr Valentina, Jhpeigo consultant Monota Ng and district team led by Thoubal chief medical officer Dr Y Nokul Singh and Thoubal NCD DNO Dr M Vikramjit Singh.
It may be mentioned that NCDs clinics have been opened in all the PHCs with NCD patients in serious condition managed at district hospitals.
The Thoubal DH is now a dedicated clinic for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), dialysis, ICU and chemotherapy besides NCD clinic with all test are done free of cost.
Under '75/25' target of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and as per ongoing NP-NCD programme, all citizen of 30 years and above are to be screened annually for diabetes and hypertension.
Standard treatment protocol for diabetes and hypertension for Manipur are already followed in the state so that such diseases could be properly managed at PHC and Health & Wellness Centre HWC/AAM by the medical officers.
The initiative aims to conduct annual screening of diabetes and hypertension which will detect many hidden cases and also treat patients who cannot afford blood test and medicines, monthly.
Follow up of hypertension patient at nearest HWC have been ongoing.
Free diabetes and hypertension drugs are available at government health centres.
