MMTA stages 'river rally' with boats

A large number of women on Friday tried to storm the residence of Heingang constituency MLA Nongthombam Biren demanding immediate implementation of ILP system in Manipur.
On the other hand, people witnessed a new form of ILP protest as MMTA staged a rafting rally in Imphal river.
At around 2 pm, a large number of women from different areas, majority of them from Heigang constituency, gathered at Chingmeirong area and started thronging towards Sangakpam residence of MLA Biren.
Their demand was to meet the MLA in person to air their voice over the demand for ILP.
However, police stopped them mid-way before reaching the MLA's house following which a skirmish ensued between the two sides.
It may be mentioned that N Biren is one of the members of the Drafting Committee set up by the State Government recently for presenting a new ILP Bill at the earliest.
Ten members of Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association (MMTA) staged a 'river rally' with two boats in the Imphal river.
The protesters shouted several slogans demanding ILP implementation.
They also used placards.
The river rally started from Sekmai area of the river at around of 2.30 pm and concluded in front of the MMTA office at Minuthong.
Several sit-in-protests were also staged at various parts of Manipur to demand ILP system in Manipur and to seek justice for Sapam Robinhood.
