Timber worker killed; 2 arrested

Ukhrul Police have picked up two suspected persons after a fellow timber labourer was found stabbed to death under mysterious circumstances inside a house located at 7th Finance area of Ngashantang in Ukhrul District Headquarters on Thursday evening last.
The deceased has been identified as Kh Jiten (35), son of Kh Shamo Singh of Huikap Makha Leikai, Imphal, while the two accused have been identified as Konthoujam Ibocha alias Ibocha Tobacco (34), son of Late K Sharma Singh and Sarangthem Chandra Babu Singh (40), son of S Koireng Singh both from Huikap Makha Leikai, Imphal.
Victim Jiten is survived by his wife Philashim, a one year old son and a five year old daughter.
It is learnt that the deceased Jiten came to Ukhrul along with the two accused on July 21 to engage in timber works and the three had been staying together at a house located at 7th Finance of Ngashantang locality since then.
Sources said that on the fateful Thursday noon, Ibocha and Babu Singh went out to pay a visit to a friend living nearby while Jiten stayed in.
Further quoting Babu Singh's statements, sources added that while they were at the friend's house, Ibocha had gone out to answer the call of nature and disappeared for about half an hour.
Later around 4: 30 pm some neighbours found Jiten lying in a pool of blood and raised alarmed, sources said adding that deep cut marks allegedly caused by a dagger were found on Jiten's throat and abdomen.
According to neighbours, they heard a noisy quarrel on the day, the three reached Ukhrul.
Meanwhile, an FIR 15(7) 2015 Ukl PS, U/Sec 302/34/IPC has been lodged with the Ukhrul Police Station in connection with the murder case and investigation is on, police have said.
Meanwhile, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned the killing, stating that the cruelty of such crime can never be condoned.
A TNL team led by vice president Peimi while sharing the grief, has extended customary assistance to the bereaved family during its visit to Ukhrul District Hospital where post mortem was conducted around 3 pm today.
Urging the law enforcing agency to book the persons involved in the killing at the earliest, Peimi said that by committing the killing here, the murderers whosoever they might be have disgraced the entire community.
"TNL would therefore never remain a silent spectator but take its own action against the culprits as per the Tangkhul Customary laws for disgracing the community," Peimi added.
