Imphal, December 30:
To check instances of road mishaps during the New Year's Day celebration, which had claimed many precious lives in the past, the Imphal West District Police would be organising a special drive to strictly implement certain safety norms and pull up erring motorists.
Informing this in a statement, SP of Imphal West District Clay Khongsai said during the special drive all the police personnel of the district would give emphasis on checking irregularities like driving motor vehicles without license or by minors (under-aged), triple riding on a two-wheeler, vehicle plying without displaying registration number, driving without registration certificate of the vehicle, driving by drunk person or under the influence of liquor-drug, driving at high speed, overloading, owners allowing a minor or a person to drive his/her vehicle without driving license.
Necessary action would also be taken up against those who violate these safety norm under the Motor Vehicles Act, the SP said, while appealing to the general public to co-operate and help the police in this regard.
The SP, however, clarified that the special drive is not being taken up with the intention of disturbing the festive mood of the people but to check road mishaps, which have claimed many lives.
A little care could have averted road mishaps.
