Over Rs 1000 Cr allocated under JJM

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has informed that since the announcement of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in 2019, the Centre has allocated a total of Rs 1,303.27 crore to the State of Manipur till date.
Out of this, Rs 1,078.82 crore have reportedly been utilized to provide tap water connections to 3.33 lakh additional rural households as of August 18, 2025.The expenditure under State share stands at a total of Rs 124.03 crore.
The statement was made in response to an unstarred question raised by Congress MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam in the Lok Sabha seeking details regarding the implementation of JJM in Manipur, as per a press release.
The Inner Manipur MP had sought information about the total funds sanctioned under JJM since its launch, the number of households provided with functional tap water connections, and the utilisation of funds.
According to the Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna, at the time of announcement of JJM, 0.26 lakh (5.74%) rural households were reported to have tap water connections in Manipur.
So far, as reported by the State as on August 18, 2025, more than 3.33 lakh additional rural households have been provided with tap water connections.
Thus, in total, more than 3.59 lakh out of 4.51 lakh rural households (79.59%) in the State have access to tap water supply in their homes, according to the Ministry.
In its reply, the Minister also pointed out that drinking water being a State subject, under JJM, responsibilities for planning, approval, implementation, operation and maintenance of drinking water supply schemes lie with State/UT Governments, while the Government of India supplements the efforts of the State/UT Government by providing technical and financial assistance.
