ILPS stir marches on

Sustaining the pro-ILPS movement, people at different localities staged demonstrations demanding implementation of ILPS in the State today as well.
A large number of students of Oriental College took out a rally on NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road).
Shouting pro-ILPS slogans and holding placards and banners that read as 'Implement ILPS in Manipur', the students set off the rally from their college campus at around 12 pm.
Although they were stopped by police at Moirang Leirak, the students overcame the police barricade and proceeded further before they were blockaded again by a large police team led by SDPO Lamphel at Meino Leirak.
After a brief face-off, the students were forced to return towards their college campus.
On the other hand, Governor Road Meira Paibi, Paona Bazar Meira Paibi and Paona Bazar Business Community jointly staged a sit-in-protest on the issue at Paona Bazar.
Pramod Chhabra, who was taking part in the protest, said that the Government must check influx of non-locals as the State has witnessed alarming rise of non-local population in the past 30 years.
Singjamei Apunba Meira Paibi also organised a joint sit-in-protest of nine localities Singjamei Sapam Leikai, Singjamei Ningthoujam Leikai, Singjamei Okram Leikai, Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai, Singjamei Top Leikai, Singjamei Thongam Leikai, Singjamei Waikhom Leikai and Oinam Thingel at Singjamei parking.
Women vendors and shopkeepers of Singjamei market also joined the protest closing their vendors and shops.
Model Club and Chingamkha Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup also staged sit-in-protest at Chinga Makhong.
Similar protests were also held at Masjid Road, Mana Ingkhol and Khurai Thangjam Leikai.
Women Against Crime also conducted sit-in-protest on Keishampat to Chingamakha road.
Luwangshangbam Apunba Meira Paibi, Koirenggei Kabui Khul and students of Reliance School and Liberal College also staged similar sit-in-protests.
Demanding implementation of ILPS in the State, the students of Manipur College marched towards the Chief Minister's bungalow today.
Armed with banners and slogans demanding speedy implementation of ILP to save indigenous people, the students proceeded towards the CM bungalow.
They were, however, barred entry along the Imphal-Moreh road at Thumbuthong by police forces.
Identifying the march as an illegal step, the police forces warned the protestors that they would take up brute forces, incase the students attempts to proceed further, to maintatin law and order.
Meanwhile, one of the students was immediately rushed to a hospital as she passed out on the spot.
The student, identified as Arambam Kanchan, is the magazine secretary of Manipur College.
