Families invite all to martyrs' memorial service

Families of the revolutionary fighters who were killed in the battle of Kodompokpi on April 13, 1982 and other revolutionaries who were killed in clashes with security forces at other places have invited all the people to join the martyrs' memorial function which would held at the Martyrs' Memorial.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today on behalf of the families of the martyrs, Naorem Ibohanbi said that the martyrs' memorial function would start at 6 am and continue till 5 pm.

He also appealed to all the people not to impose any bandh or blockade on the day.
Ibohanbi appealed to all the people to come to Cheiraoching and join the martyrs' memorial function by offering floral tributes to the martyrs.
High Court of Manipur Advocate N Gojen said that a writ petition was filed at the High Court by the families of the nine martyrs of the battle of Kodompokpi on April 4 praying for an instruction from the Court to allow the memorial function without any disturbance from the Government.
After considering the petition, a single bench of Justice A Guneshore gave permission for offering floral tributes to the martyrs at Cheiraoching from 6 am to 5 pm on April 13, Advocate Gojen said.
Meanwhile, a joint press release issued by the families of the 19 martyrs killed in the battle of Kodompokpi said that Manipur became a part of India in 1949 .
Following the merger of Manipur into the Indian Union, Manipur witnessed a complete downfall politically, economically and socially, it said.
In order to save the Manipuri Nation which was being destroyed systematically, a large number of people launched different types of struggles.
In their struggle to save the Nation, many men and women have laid down their lives.
It is a moral obligation of all the people to acknowledge, respect and eulogise the supreme sacrifices made by the martyrs for the motherland as well as their accomplishments, they said.
In order to facilitate proper observation of a commemorative function, the Manipur Martyrs Committee has developed Manipur Martyrs Complex at Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband, said the press release.
The complex is now adorned with the statues of the heroes of Manipur namely; Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General, Major Paona Brajabashi and Hijam Irabot.
The memorial is also dedicated to the many unknown soldiers who had laid down their lives for the motherland, it said.
It further appealed to all the people to light up lamps at dusk on April 13 at each and every residential gate in memory of the martyrs who had laid down their lives for the motherland.
Notably, nine members of People Liberation Army (PLA) died in the battle of Kodompokpi on April 13, 1982 .
The slain PLA members were Thoudam Kunjabihari of Thongju Nameirakpam Leikai, Th Chaoban alias Rajendra of Kwakeithel, M Premkumar of Tera Sapam Leirak, N Rajen Meetei of Kakwa Naorem Leikai, Th Loken of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai, L Dilip of Keishampat, M Paka of Heirok, S Kameshore of Heibongpokpi and RK Khoirumba of Moreh.
