FNCC calls off blockade

Imphal, August 08 2025:
The Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) has called off the indefinite blockade it imposed against movement of Kuki people in Naga areas after it reached an agreement with the State Government today.
A team of FNCC representatives and officials of the Government of Manipur held a detailed discussion on the grievances of FNCC .
On the construction of unauthorised road, it was clarified that the State Government has not approved or sanctioned any such roads as pointed out by FNCC .
According to an agreement signed by FNCC representatives and Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home) N Ashok Kumar, the State Government will take necessary legal action after verifying the status of illegal constructions/naming, if any on the ground, and it will not be permitted.
Regarding FNCC's concerns over SoO agreement, designated camps etc, interests and apprehensions of Nagas in foothill areas will be seriously considered by the State Government in consultation with the Government of India.
About the illegal poppy cultivation, it was acknowledged by both the parties that the State Government has been taking stem actions against those involved in poppy cultivation under NDPS Act and PIT (NDPS) Act under the initiative of War on Drugs 1.0 and 2.0 .
State Government has been taking steps towards zero tolerance to NDPS matters, more particularly illegal cultivation of poppy and cannabis.
Destruction drives have been conducted by the State Police and Central agencies like NCB.
It was agreed that the State Government will take up necessary action including survey of area and destruction of illegal cultivation of poppy and cannabis in the State.
On the basis of this understanding, the FNCC agreed to call off the blockade with immediate effect.
