4 candidates in Thongju, 3 in Thangmeiband to contest assembly bye-elections

Scrutiny of the candidates for the bye-elections to Thongju and Thangmeiband assembly constituencies was completed on Thursday.
So far, four candidates in Thongju A/C and three candidates in Thangmeiband A/C have been approved to contest the elections.
The scrutiny for the Thongju A/C was held on Thursday at the office of Returning Officer, Imphal East.
Nomination papers of four candidates namely, Thongam Bishwajit (BJP), Bijoy Koijam (INC), Dr G Tonsana (Manipur Democratic People's Front) and Okram Ingo (Independent) were scrutinised and approved in the exercise.
The symbol of MDPF candidate G Tonsana will be "torch" and that of the independent candidate O Ingo will be "ink pen nib" with seven coloured rays.

Meanwhile, the scrutiny for the Thangmeiband A/C was held at the Returning Officer office located at Lamphel DC Complex.
Nomination papers of three candidates were scrutinised and all of the three were approved to contest in the bye-election.
The three candidates were INC candidate Jotin Waikhom, BJP candidate Khumukcham Joykishan and MDPF candidate Dr G Tonsana who was also approved to contest in the Thongju A/C.Dr G Tonsana had also already contested in the Heingang A/C before.
The last date of withdrawal by the candidates of both the constituencies is on November 7.The poll will take place on November 21.Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) which will be used in the election has been "readied and training for polling personnel posted on election duties will start soon", said sources.
