Imphal, January 29 2025:
In line with the Indian National Congress' initiative in other parts of the country, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Wednesday launched the 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan' campaign in the state to raise public awareness about BJP's systematic attack on architect of the Constitution BR Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader O Ibobi Singh, who attended the launch event of the campaign at Congress Bhawan, said BJP government at the Centre governs for some wealthy sections of the country rather than supporting poor and underprivileged people.
"To highlight this falling trust of the people in the present government and guide them back on the right path, INC initiated 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan' campaign with the same launched here by MPCC," he disclosed, adding that the campaign will continue for one year.
According to O Ibobi, the beauty of the Indian Constitution is that one political party will govern the country for one term and another political party the next term based on the mandate of the people and maintain continuity of governance.
However, the outlook of PM Modi-led government at the Centre and state's BJP towards the Indian Constitution and its architect BR Ambedkar is quite questionable.
"In-spite of well aware about the enormous role played by Mahatma Gandhi, better known as Bapu, in forcing out the colonial British front India, the BJP systematically attacks and insults 'Bapu' apart from Constitution and BR Ambedkar," he contended and termed BJP's attack on Constitution, BR Ambedkar and Bapu as dishonour of Indian Constitution and the entire people of the country.
Expressing concern about the gradual shift of Indian Constitution towards dictatorial system under PM Modi's regime, Ibobi stressed that the Congress party maintains top vigil to protect the Constitution.
He accused the PM Modi-led government of not only distorting the history of India and Manipur but also scheming for creation of new history for both.
He also voiced fears that the very essence of democracy in the country may be at risk, given the BJP government's intervention on democratic institutions like the Election Commission and the Supreme Court.
CWC member Gaikhangam, who also attended the launch event, said that the BJP will definitely regret and pay a high price for insulting BR Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and Constitution.
The launch event of the campaign was also attended by MPCC president K Meghachandra, deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, party MLAs, former ministers, party leaders and workers.
