Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has issued clarification regarding circumstances surrounding the unfortunate demise of a patient within its facility.
In a statement, RIMS Media Cell informed that the deceased namely 52-year-old Hijam Ibemcha, was admitted to the hospital on August 14, 2025 for treatment of right leg both bone fracture sustained from an accidental fall the previous day.
It maintained that Ibemcha was scheduled for a surgical procedure - open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with plating - on August 19 .
However, she suddenly developed cardiorespiratory failure while being prepared for surgery.
Despite immediate and extensive resuscitative efforts by the medical team, she could not be revived.
In its announcement, RIMS confirmed that an internal enquiry into the incident has already been initiated and is expected to conclude shortly.
The institute clarified that the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after a post-mortem examination.
Expressing profound grief, RIMS extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and assured its full cooperation with all ongoing and future investigative procedures being undertaken by competent authorities.
