Senapati bodies condemn sexual assault

Maram Students' Union (MKS), Poumai Naga Students' Union (PNTM), Mao Students' Union (MSU), Maram Ramlung Students' and Youth Organisation (MRSYO), management, staff and students of Don Bosco College (Autonomous), Maram, Mao Youth & Students Organisation (MYSO), Makhan Union (MU), Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA), Senapati District Women Association (SDWA), Mao Students' Union, Senapati (MSUS), Maram Women Union (MWU), Poumai Naotumai Me (PNM), Senapati District Catholic Union (SDCU) and Naga People's Organisation (NPO) have vehemently condemned alleged sexual assault on a student of Don Bosco College, Maram by one Kangba Moses at Maram Ramlung on May 17 .
In separate releases, the organisations pledged unwavering solidarity with survivor of the sexual assault and her family in their hour of trauma.
Students, who come from diverse communities to pursue education, deserve utmost respect and protection under all circumstances.
This reprehensible act not only inflicted physical, emotional and psychological trauma on the victim but also amounts to direct assault on the dignity and safety of all women and the student community.
It also has created fear psychosis and disturbed the academic career of the students, the organisations expressed, while asserting that they will not tolerate any violence or harassment.
Mentioning that such despicable actions have no place in the society, the civil and student bodies demanded that authorities concern take appropriate action against the culprit at the earliest and deliver justice to the victim.
Meanwhile, sources revealed that the accused will be produced at Kangpokpi District Court by Senapati women police station on Monday for police remand.
