Imphal, June 17 2024:
Manipuri womenfolk on Monday convened a meeting of 'Mothers' at the Chingamathak community hall where resolutions were to urge the Manipur High Court initiate conduct of judicial inquiry into the Jiribam violence and the chief minister clarify whether Article 355 is in effect in Manipur or not, and if enforced, then a letter should be written to the Home Ministry for immediate revocation of the same, among others.
The gathering also decided that the state government take over the chairmanship of the unified com mand and put the state's home department in-charge of security arrangement, state government end the ethnic conflict in the state, with no other secret pressure interfering the same, and for the 45 MLAs who are part of the ruling government to take up their responsibility and write a joint request to the Home Ministry for ending the conflict.
Other resolutions include for the state government to submit a detailed report to the Home Ministry regarding the (alleged) collusion between Assam Rifles and Kuki militants so as to see the removal of AR from Manipur; granting relief packages to IDPs and allowing them to return to their homes at the earliest; for the two newly elected LS MPs to uphold the promises of their party leaders for taking up the Manipur issue in the Parliament so as to end the conflict as soon as possible; and not to arrest any village volunteers who are defending the valley against attacks from Kuki militants.
The meeting then demanded all the MLAs from different parties to ensure that the government translates into action the aforementioned resolutions with 30 days, failing which they should resign from their respective position.
