Narendra Ningomba named for Iboyaima award

Imphal, April 10 2025: On the occasion of Shumang Leela Day, celebrated annually on April 12, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council will confer this year's Iboyaima Award on renowned artiste Narendra Ningomba.

Addressing the media at the Council's Paona Bazar office on Thursday, lifetime general secretary and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Sh Hemanta acknowledged that Shumang Leela artistes suffered serious setback in Manipur during the COVID-19 pandemic and facing the same fate due to outbreak of the ethnic crisis since May 3, 2023.However, he expressed elation that artistes have resumed performances, also a positive development for the art form.

He said that the Council is ready to celebrate Shu-mang Leela Day on April 12.As part of the celebration, the Council will present the Iboyaima Award to film and Shumang Leela artiste Narendra Ningomba by visiting his residence on the day.

He also announced that "Panthou Sanggai", a play by the Lamjingba Artistes' Association which won first prize in 2023, will be staged on the occasion.
