Imphal, November 07 2026:
Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has said that in banners, signboards and hoardings for programmes held in the valley, Meetei Mayek should be printed prominently on top, at least two-thirds larger than other scripts.
In a release, MEELAL said the campaign had been paused due to the ongoing conflict, but following a decision taken by its executive in September 2026, its members have started inspecting districts and urging organisers of Government, private and other programmes not using Meetei Mayek to comply.
Meelal warned that it will take a strong view against those who undermine the language and script, and will not compromise on the issue.
Meelal also extended Ningol Chakkouba greetings to Ningols in Manipur and outside, and appealed to gift locally made food items and products instead of plastic items, to strengthen love and unity through the festival.
