Imphal, May 03 2025:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has raised questions over the permission granted by the government for organising the 'Separation Day' .
In a release, AMUCO secretary publicity Heisnam Phorel Mangang pointed out that people are now well aware of the Kuki-Zo organisations' hidden agenda to launch attacks on the Meetei community and to advocate for a separate administration under the guise of a protest rally condemning the Manipur High Court's directive to the state government for inclusion of Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe list.
"This intent is evident from both the actions and statements of the Kuki-Zo organisations," he added.
In addition to the public resentment toward the central government for actions perceived as supporting the attacks against the Meetei by Kuki groups and their demand for a separate administration, a new concern has arisen as to whether Churachandpur DC also openly endorsed this demand.
He alleged that granting permission to organise the 'Separation Day' appears to be a new strategy aimed at deepening the crisis Th Manipur, adding that such a move could undermine the dialogue facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs to find a resolution between both sides.
Basically, allowing the 'Separation Day' programme laid the foundation for further conflict in Manipur, he added.
Reminding that Separation Day was also organised last year in 2024, he said that the permission given by district and deputy commissioner of the state which is under President's Rule dishonoured the announcement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that there will be no discussion on the demand of Separate Administration or union territory by Kuki Zo groups.
Though Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a clear announcement that separate administration will not be given, Churachandpur DC gave permission for organising 'Separation Day', he asserted and questioned whether Churachandpur DC is above Union Home Minister.
Phorel further asked whether Churachandpur DC sought permission from the higher-ups of the state government regarding the 'Separation Day.
"If so, it is hard not to conclude that the Governor - currently the head of the state - is playing a role in the destabilisation of Manipur".
He questioned why the Governor, during President's Rule, has not taken initiatives to prevent such actions that may exacerbate the crisis in the state, while cautioning that the ongoing crisis in Manipur will not be resolved if the Governor continues on the current course.
Phorel, nevertheless, noted that nothing can fracture Manipur, given the strong sense of patriotism and the unwavering resolve of its people to protect the state.
The hate speech exchanged between communities would likely decrease if people recognised that Indian government used divisive policies to fragment communities that had long lived in harmony in Manipur, he added.
