Imphal, March 26 2014:
Blaming the Manipur State unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) for violating the decision of Left and Secular Alliance (LSA), the State JD-U unit today tried to justify its stand to alienate itself from the pre-poll alliance of the non-Congress and non-BJP parties.
State unit of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had earlier announced its decision that it would not support Dr M Nara of the State CPI, the common candidate of the Left-Secular Alliance, and now taking a u-turn the alliance is supporting the NCP nominee, JD-U president M Tombi told reporters here.
An exchange of war of words ignited between the alliance and its estranged constituent party JD-U after the latter left the bloc following the controversy over supporting NCP candidate C Doungel for the Outer Parliamentary seat by the alliance.
Dr Nara, who is to contest from the Inner Parliamentary Constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha polls, has created the whole problem after he put out the idea of supporting Doungel from his own pocket, Tombi accused.
All the constituent parties of the alliance are still adamant to the decision which is unacceptable to JD-U, Tombi said, while reiterating that his party has already quit the alliance.
Continuing to attack Dr Nara, Tombi said that CPI leader had even secretly canvassed for NCP candidate Doungel before an agreement was reached within LSA.
Pointing out that CPI has only four MPs in the Parliament, the state JD-U leader called CPI as a 'party that lacks own capacity to fight the upcoming Lok Sabha polls' .
Fortunately, the JD-U has enough strength to join the fray by its own unlike CPI, he asserted.
