Pro-talks UG groups write to MHA over 'threat' by CorCom

Underground outfits namely KYKL (MDF), KCP (MC) and URF, which have signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central and State Governments, today submitted a representation to the Union Home Secretary urging the Government to fulfil all provisions of the MoU and also provide them adequate security in the aftermath of threats and intimidations served by the Coordination Committee (CorCom) of KCP, PREPAK, PREPAK (Pro), UNLF, RPF and KYKL.
According to the representation submitted to the Union Home Secretary duly signed by Chairman of United Revolutionary Front (URF) Kh Gopendro Singh alias Lanheiba Meitei on behalf of the Peace Talk Committee (PTC) comprising KYKL (MDF), KCP (MC) and URF, the three underground groups laid down arms and decided to join the mainstream by signing an MoU on February 13, 2013 last year with Central and State Governments.
However, the MoU signatory groups are being threatened with dire consequences by anti-talks groups (CorCom) if they help or share inputs with any of the Indian law enforcing agencies deployed in the State.
The groups have submitted representations to the state authorities regarding the threats a number of times, but it went on vain and failed to fructify.
They are also being treated as sub-human beings by the State Government and State Police.
If such treatment is further continued, they may be compelled to go back to the jungle again, it said.
The cadres of these three groups came out to the national mainstream by abjuring the path of violence to lead a life of a bona fide citizen of the country.
The ill treatment meted out to then by the State Government and State Police are the gleaning example and indication of their desire to send us back to the jungle so that they could grasp hundreds of crores of rupees in the name of counter-insurgency, the UG groups alleged in the representation.
At times, people have strong reasons to believe that the respective Governments both at the Centre and the State lack strong will in solving the burning insurgency problem prevailing in the region in general and the State in particular.
However, the groups are still hopeful of the Government of India that the MHA would certainly do the needful in nation re-building in the larger interest of the nation as a whole, the representation mentioned.
The prevailing insurgency problem in the State is at a transitory stage, however, from now onwards, the solution lies with the Government of India as how tactfully it tackles the situation.
The recent behaviour of State is quite indicative and evident of sending a wrong signal across the border and within, to those who were quite willing to come out to the national mainstream en-mass, by abjuring the path of violence, it said.
The three UG groups pleaded to the Union Home Secretary to look into the matter with a rational and sincere approach, and address their myriad problems and grievances at the earliest in order to expedite the peace process.
Further, the UG groups submitted a list of 11 leaders of the Peace Talk Committee to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
