BRO assigned Ukhrul-Meluri road; BAVA lauds Ibobi, Preshaw

The construction and maintenance work along a 135-km long road from Ukhrul's Phangrei zero point to Nagaland's Meluri has been handed over to Border Road Organisation (BRO) by the state cabinet after a prolong demand by the public and student organisations.
In a press communiqu� issued on Wednesday, Border Area Villages Association (BAVA) secretary Tuithing Zingkhai said the state cabinet had resolved to hand over the 135-km road from Ukhrul's Phangrei zero point to Nagaland's Meluri on January 31, 2014 .
"The state cabinet decision came after long years of demand from the public in the areas...and accordingly, the significant move came after an intensifying initiative of local MLA and deputy speaker MK Preshaw Shimray," he stated.
BAVA also extended its gratitude to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh for taking up the matter in the Cabinet meeting (No.52/24/2012) and subsequent decision taken to hand over the 135-km road to BRO/BRTF.
It also expressed its contentment to Chingai AC MLA and Deputy Speaker MK Preshaw Shimray for his initiative in assigning the road to more reliable agencies.
Further, the body said the road is very significant for 19 villages in the Northern Ukhrul bordering Myanmar and would enhances livelihood among the people in the areas while regaining old trade ties with Somra.
