Imphal, May 25 2024:
Acme Fertility & HealthCare Centre has informed that the institution has successful treated and discharged a 32-year-old patient with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, a rare congenital disorder affecting the female reproductive system.
According to a press statement issued by the Centre, the patient, who had been experiencing primary infertility for three years, presented with amenorrhea (no menstrual periods since birth), an absent vagina, and an absent uterus, though her bilateral tubes and ovaries were normal.
On May 13, the patient underwent a Laparoscopic Neo-vaginoplasty using the modified Davydov technique under general anaesthesia.
The procedure was performed by a feam of surgeons led by Dr James Elangbam and Dr Ranjeeta Angom.
The patient experienced a smooth recov-ery with no intraoperative or postoperative complications and was discharged on the third postoperative day with appropriate medications and follow-up advice.
This marks the second successful case of Laparoscopic Neo-vaginoplasty performed by Acme Fertility & Health-Care Centre in the state.
The technique involves creating a new vaginal canal by pulling down the abdominal peritoneum to line its walls.
MRKH syndrome results in an underdeveloped or absent vagina and uterus, though the external genitalia remain normal.
Affected individuals do not menstruate due to the absence of a uterus and typically face significant challenges in their desire to conceive.
Informing that the successful procedure represents a significant milestone in the patient s journey toward achieving her dream of motherhood, Acme Fertility & HealthCare Centre encourages individuals affected by this condition to seek expert help and counselling from their team of doctors.
