AMCO clarifies on Guwahati meeting of Kuki-Zo, Meetei delegates

With reference to the news report of a meeting held recently in Guwahati, All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) has clarified that the Guwahati gathering cannot be termed as peace talk or peace meeting between Kuki-Zo and Meetei as it was merely discussion on role of a church organisation regarding the prevailing situation.
In a release, AMCO president Simon Raomai said that the meeting was part of continuous activity of the organisation for promoting peace and normalcy in the state.
The meeting was organised in Guwahati in order to meet and pray together with some of the AMCO elders/advisors within and outside the state of Manipur.
"Also, we intended to discuss about the humanitarian assistance, as such we have invited some friends and like-minded people from Meetei, Kuki-Zo and Tamil community residing together in the state to take stock of their first-hand experiences towards the internally displaced people," he said, while adding that no one was invited to represent their own community or organisation.
"It was a continuous activity where we integrated humanitarian assistance agenda and discussed how to reduce violence, protection of civilians, accessibility of health and educational institutions especially by women and children as well as economic development/ trading system, etc.," Simon said, while adding that no pastors from Zo-Kuki and Meetei Christians were invited.
As such, the meeting cannot be termed as peace talk nor peace meeting between Kuki-Zo and Meetei ut discussion on how and what to do being a church organisation towards the prevailing situation and to pray together for peace and normalcy in the state of Manipur at the earliest as all the sections of the society are impacted socially, physically, economically and mentally, he maintained.
