Sit-ins protest killing of worker, hotel attack

Condemning the incident of opening firing on the groups of labourers engaged in pipe work along the Nambul River, which claimed the life of one and left two others injured, at Takyel Khongbal Khumanthem Leikai, Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup staged a sit-in protest at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai Meira Shang on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, Uripok Apunba Lup secretary S Durba denounced the assault and killing of workers in Naoremthong around 7:30 pm on Saturday.
Appealing to all concerned to refrain from such merciless acts in the area in future, he expressed that the incident has caused chaos among the residents of Naoremthong Khullem Leikai.
Meanwhile, in a press release, Takyel Khongbal Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Marup secretary Ng Manjuri Devi urged those involved in the incident to explain the reasons behind the killing, considering the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the state, and appealed for such acts not to be repeated in the future.
Mention may be made that a labourer from Jharkhand was killed and two others injured in an attack by unidentified assailants on Saturday night.
A police official said that the assailants pulled out the three labourers of a construction company from their rented accommodation and shot them on the spot.
One of them, identified as Shree Ram Hangsada, 41, subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The injured, also from Jharkhand, are undergoing treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital in Imphal.
On the other-hand, Kakching Lamkhai Welfare Board along with shop-owners and hotel owners of Kakching Lamkhai staged a sit-in protest at Kakching Lamkhai on Sunday, condemning the shooting incident at a rice hotel, named PS Hotel located in Kakching Lamkhai along Imphal-Moreh road under Kakching PS around 7.30 pm Saturday.
During the protest, the participants held placards inscribed with the slogans, "We condemn gun attack at shops", "Don't repeat such acts in the future", and "Clarify reason for attack".
According to Pushpala-ta, wife of PS Hotel owner Pukhrambam Shamphal Singh of Kakching Turel Wangma, the family has no any idea who and for what reason the attack was carried out.
She further stated that she had no enmity with anyone and has been treating her ailing husband with the meagre income earned from running the rice hotel.
She continued that the attack has left her family shaken and as such, urged the persons responsible to clarify the reason, while urging all concerned not to repeat such acts in the future.
