Imphal, June 17 2025:
A six-member delegation of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on Monday held a meeting at the New Secretariat with members of the Enquiry Committee constituted to probe the Gwaltabi incident, seeking an update on the status of the investigation.
In a statement made available to the media, COCOMI IPR Sub-Committee convenor Laikhuram Jayenta stated that the probe panel members informed them that the report had been submitted to the Governor of Manipur on June 14.COCOMI urged the authorities to make the report public at the earliest in the interest of transparency.
The statement further highlighted that the protection of Manipur's territorial integrity and sovereignty is a fundamental responsibility of its people and that they have long been resisting efforts aimed at undermining the state's identity.
It asserted that the government is duty-bound to provide a just and truthful account of the circumstances surrounding the Gwaltabi incident.
The statement cautioned that the report must reflect factual findings and should not go against the interest of the people.
Should the report fall short of public expectations, it warned, there may be a need to constitute a more transparent and accountable independent enquiry committee.
It also reiterated COCOMI's earlier stance that the current administrative-level enquiry committee lacks credibility and is not satisfactory.
