Imphal, April 17 2025:
A man belonging to the Maring tribe suffered grievous injuries while others escaped with minor wounds in brutal assault by illegal immigrants from Myanmar on Wednesday.
According to Rilram Area Maring Organisation (RAMO) president K Prakash Maring, the illegal immigrants from Myanmar, who have been taking refuge at Maring villages located between Border Pillar number 82 to 87 in Tengnoupal district, are turning hostile against the locals, resulting in numerous altercations.

He recounted that around 3 pm Wednesday, the illegal immigrants from Myanmar who are settling nearby N Satang, a Maring village near Border Pillar no.82, had organised a water festival during which a conflict broke out amongst them.
The Maring people of Choktong village entered the area to calm down the situation but the immigrants turned against the former and started assaulting, resulting in several injuries.
Of the injured, one Modarshim Maring (30) s/o D Kodun Maring, was rushed to Assam Rifles' post at Rilram Centre with huge laceration from ear to eyebrow.
He received 7-8 stitches, Prakash conveyed.
In this regard, Choktong village has urged the district administration to relocate the illegal immigrants from Maring villages in Tengnoupal district to another location at the earliest, so as to prevent recurrence of further unwanted incidents.
Prakash maintained that Maring CSOs had been patient and provided shelter to the immigrants on humanitarian ground after the district administration assured to shift them after collecting the biometric data.
However, the illegal immigrants from Myanmar have been picking a fight with the Maring villages in the area.
As such, the illegal immigrants should be relocated from Maring area within a week, the RAMO president demanded.
Prakash continued that the central and state governments' failure to keep the illegal immigrants as per the law has led to a situation akin to "a dog attacking its owner after growing up" .
