Imphal East district police arrested five employees of revenue department including an SDC for allotting/transferring of government land to an individual through gift deed.
Informing this during a press conference held DC office complex, Porompat on Sunday, Imphal East deputy commissioner Khumanthem Diana said that strict actions will be taken up against any government officials and employees involved in such illegal activities.
The land plot in question is located in Koirengei under Nilakuthi revenue village of Heingang circle in Imphal East district.
According to the DC, two complaints were filed at Porompat police station on March 10 against the then SDC and his sub-ordinate staff involved in the illegal land deal after getting report of the fraudulent activities.
She said that gift deed should be executed among family members only as per office memorandum issued by the revenue department in July 2021.Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms Act 1960 defines 'family members' as mother, father, brothers, sisters, grandkids and other members of a joint family.
However, the officials executed the gift deed in the name of 'nephew and brother inlaw' without any verification and official formalities, she informed.
Consequently, SDC Heingang, sub-registrar Porompat and three sub-ordinate staff involved in the illegal land deal were arrested and are now in the custody of Porompat police, she added.
Joining the media briefing, Imphal East SP M Pradipkumar said that the five individuals were arrested based on two FIRs registered at Porompat and Heingang PSs following complaints filed by ADC Imphal East.
Porompat police arrested two individuals, namely former sub-registrar Sagolsem Ibomcha (62) son of late S Maipak of Langathel Moirang Leikai in Thoubal district, and former LDC Khundrakpam Damayenti (59) wife of Maibam Dilip of Wangkhei Konsam Leikai.
They were produced before duty magistrate, Imphal East on Saturday and remanded to police custody for three days.
On the other hand, Heingang police arrested three individuals, namely former SDC Heingang G Chinglensana Kabui (51) son of G Yaima Kabui of Kakhulong, former Circle Mandol Moirangthem Sanatomba (48) son of Noyon Moirangthem of Khurai Chaithabi Leirak, and former Circle Mandol Leishangthem Biswanath (48) son of L Salam of Khonghampat Mayai Leikai.
They were also produced before the duty magistrate, Imphal East on Saturday and remanded to police custody for five days.
Further investigation into the illegal land deal will continue, the SP added.
