Kakching, April 10 2025:
An awareness programme on "Eco-Tourism and Home Stay" was organised by Divisional Forest Office, Chandel at Lambung community hall, Chandel district on Thursday.
The programme was attended by Chandel divisional forest officer (DFO) Dr Naorem Munal Meitei, Lambung village chief Lunghi Noah and former chief Alam as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In his address, Dr N Munal said that Chandel district is blessed with abundant natural beauty.
However, due to lack of awareness on how to harness this potential, the picturesque hill ranges in the district have remained largely untapped and underutilised.
He noted that villages stretching from Pallel to Chandel, as well as those in the surrounding areas, are ideal for development as eco-tourism destinations.
By transforming these villages into eco-tourism spots, the region could attract significant number of tourists, said Dr Munal, who also regretted failure to make effective use of natural resources.
Recognising the potential of Prayer Mount in Lambung village along the Ralhlam hill range, the Forest Department organised the awareness programme as a starting point for eco-tourism development in the area, he maintained.
