Union MoS John Barla scans projects

Imphal, October 07 2021: Union minister of state for minority affairs John Barla on Thursday inaugurated a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Oxygen Plant at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, here in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba.

The plant has been set up under the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES).

He also inaugurated the Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) Centre of Department of Nephrology, RIMS set up under PM CARES on Thursday.

The union minister then inspected the on-going construction works of Model Residential School at Saitu, Kangpokpi district.

The Residential School is being constructed under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), a centrally sponsored scheme of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, at a project cost of Rs 26.25 crore.

He was accompanied by MP Leishemba Sanajaoba during his visit to Saitu, Kangpokpi.

Later, minister John Barla visited Chu-rachandpur and inspected various government sponsored projects which are being undertaken under PMJVK and other schemes in the district.

Barla inspected Sadbhavna Mandap at Tuibong; Lanva Model High School building; PHSC construction at Geljang; another Sadbhavna Mandap at Lamka South and SSA Residential School.

During the visit to Lanva Model High School, he expressed dissatisfaction over construction work of the floor of the school and also instructed the authorities to undertake construction of the toilet.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inspection, John Barla said that construction of schools, residential schools and other components are being done smoothly but due to non release of full amount of the earmarked funds, the completion of the works are getting delayed.

He maintained that the scheme has not been utilised properly due to ignorance or lack of awareness.

Thus, awareness needs to be given at the grassroots level so that minority group/class can avail facilities that are meant for them.

During his interaction with reporters, the union minister said that he was impressed with the work progress of some development schemes carried out under PMJVK, but also expressed his displeasure over some works, most of which, he said, are in initial stages.

Interacting with local leaders, John Barla assured that during his stay in the state, he would meet members from minority communities including bishops and fathers to spread awareness about the PM schemes which the minorities can benefit from.

The union minister was accompanied amongst others by MP Leishemba Sanajaoba; Minority Affairs director Ng Bhogendra; MOBED chief engineer Khaikhopau Ngaihte, additional DC Churachand-pur and other officials of the state Minority Department and district's DRDA.
