Dr M Nara pitches for discussing Hijam Irawat's thoughts

Imphal, September 30 2024: Irawat Celebration Committee, Manipur celebrated 128th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irawat at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace compound on Monday.

The highlight of the celebration was procession with life-size portrait of Jananeta Hijam Irawat from Irawat Bhavan, BT road to Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen.

Members of AISF, AIYF, Lou-mi Lup, All Manipur Nupi Marup and CPI Manipur state council took part in the procession and later paid rich floral tributes to the portrait of Irawat.

In his address, Celebration Committee chairman Dr Nara Said that there must be causes for the present crisis in Manipur and solution for the same.

Unfortunately, the present government seems to work on personal line rather than working as per pulse and interest of the people, he said and expressed hope that solution to the crisis can be explored if Hijam Irawat's views and thoughts are thoroughly discussed.

While stating that people have started discussing the thoughts of Hijam Irawat not only in Manipur, Dr Nara said Irawat's poem book 'Imagi Puja' has not only been translated into English but also adopted by the Sahitya Akademi for translation into 20 major languages of India.

During the event, advocate and former acting chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission Khaidem Mani was conferred with Hijam Irawat Ningshing Mana-2024 .

Other awards instituted by ICC were also presented to recipients.

The event was also attended by CPI Manipur state council's state control commission chairman Langol Iboyaima, CPI state secretary L Thoiren, former secretary L Sotinkumar Singh and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council president Laishram Tomba.
