World Theatre Day celebrated widely

Imphal, March 27 2026: Manipur's theatre community came alive on World Theatre Day as the Banian Repertory Theatre (BRT) and a State-Level Drama Festival highlighted theatre's power to promote peace and cultural harmony.

At BRT's complex in Wangkhei Ningthem.

Pukhri Mapal, the event under the theme "Theatre and a Culture of Peace" underscored theatre's role in building societal unity.

Attendees included BRT vice chairman Moirangthem Ibomcha Singh, director Ksh Phajaton Chanu, and secretary L Tikendra.

In a parallel highlight, the 1st State-Level Drama Festival kicked off at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) hall in Yaiskul Police Lane.

Jointly organised by Diamond Radio 91.2 FM (Khongjom) and MDU, the event runs from March 27 to April 4, featuring 16 competing groups.

The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Thokchom Satyabrata, Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly; G Dharmadas, Joint Director, Art & Culture Department; IB Khumancha, Diamond Radio advisor; and Soraisham Kambarom, president of MDU .

The ceremony opened with a mesmerizing Maibi Jagoi by Langlen Oinam and her team, followed by a classical dance from Monika Usham.

Kanglei Theatre Khangabok enthralled audiences with their play "Leibakleigi Manglan" .
