Book Club Khangabok mourns passing of Dr Laishram Ibungohal

The Book Club, Khangabok, has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Dr Laishram Ibungohal Singh, the first PhD holder from Khangabok village, who passed away on September 21, 2025 .
In a statement, the Book Club described his death as not only a profound loss to his family but also to the wider community and the academic world of Manipur.
Dr Ibungohal Singh, a native of Khangabok Sorok Wangma, earned his PhD in Zoology from the University of Calcutta in 1984 .
His doctoral thesis, "Studies on the ichthyofauna of Manipur along with biological study of Acrossocheilus hexagonolepis from Tarel Hill Stream, Manipur," made a pioneering contribution to the understanding of aquatic biodiversity in Manipur.
He later served with distinction as an Associate Professor at Modern College, dedicating his career to nurturing students through his scholarship, discipline, and commitment.
Paying tribute, the Book Club said, "Dr Singh's achievement as the first PhD from the village will always be remembered with pride and gratitude" .
