Imphal, June 17 2025:
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has urged Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla for immediate attention on issues related to early enactment of the State Policy for Children and setting up of Paediatric or Child Covid Care Centres amid sharp rise in cases of Covid-19 in the state.
In a statement, the Commission informed that its delegation on Tuesday called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan, here, and urged him to approve and enact the Manipur State Policy for Children, 2025, through the Governor-in-Council, to make Manipur the first state in the northeast region to have its own State Policy for Children.
Enactment of such comprehensive policy would help in dealing with the different problems of children, including the difficulties faced by the marginalised children being affected by the present violence in the state, it said.
The delegation also sought immediate attention of the Governor to set up some separate Paediatric Covid Care Centres to treat Covid-infected children, in view of the resurgence of new Covid positive cases in the state.
Referring to vulnerable situations of various relief camps, where a large number of IDPs are housed in congested rooms without enough space for maintaining social distance protocols, the Commission urged for improvement of existing structures and accommodation in the relief camps in both the valley and hill districts.
The MCPCR team also expressed concern over the unrest situations in the state that have caused irreparable loss to the society along with serious negative impacts on the innocent children belonging to both Meetei and Kuki communities and urged the Governor to resolve the crisis at the earliest.
The MCPCR delegation included chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar, member Anita Chabungbam, and programme officer Sumel Yumnam.
