Lucy Maring case: CBI lens on nine accused

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted charge sheets in the court of special judge CBl, Guwahati against nine accused people in a case of abduction of a woman from near Sawombung gate under Lamlai police station on July 19 and later found killed in Keibi village area.
The central investigation agency registered a case in connection with the abduction and murder of Lucy Maring during the height of the ethnic violence after the Government of India issued a notification on the request of the state government.
Earlier, the investigation was handled by Lamlai police station.
The woman was abducted by around 100 people including some armed men from Sawombung gate on July 15 and took her in a car towards Keibi.
During the investigation, CBI found direct involvement of the nine accused people and submitted chargesheets against them based on evidences.
The agency is continuing its investigation to ascertain identities of other co-accused.
In its charge-sheet filed before the special CBI court, the agency accused the nine persons of committing the crime.
"It was alleged that at about 12.10 pm on July 15, 2023, one female was forcibly detained at Sawombung Gate by a mob numbering about 100 persons, including armed miscreants, and was forcibly abducted towards Keibi village in a car.
Subsequently, body of the female was recovered on the same day," a spokesperson of the CBI said.
He said further investigation continues, including identifying other accused involved in the case.
