Girl rescued from airport, suspect held

Imphal, June 06 2024:
A 17-year-old girl staying in a relief camp in Imphal East district was rescued from Imphal International Airport from a man while trying to take her to Delhi, on Tuesday.
The man involved, identified as Yengkhom Gyandas (26) son of Premkumar of Pallel Mamang Leikai, has been arrested by police.
Police source said that the minor girl, a resident of Moreh, who got displaced after the May 3 violence and has been putting up in a relief camp in Imphal East, went missing since Wednesday.
Family members filed a missing person report at Porompat police station the same day.
During investigation, police received information about presence of the missing girl at Imphal International Airport.
A team of Porompat PS went there, prevented the suspect from taking the girl to Delhi through Indigo Flight No 6E-2008 (Imphal-Guwahati-Delhi) and arrested the suspect.
On Thursday, both the suspect and the girl were handed over to Imphal East women police station where a case has been registered against the man under POCSO Act along with charge of kidnapping.
The girl was also produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Imphal East.
