ZUCM demands action against perpetrators

The Zeliangrong United Committee Manipur (ZUCM) cautioned that a broader conflict between indigenous communities and the Kukis may flare-up if the latter do not stop their excessive actions and continue to spread falsehood.
Strongly condemning the attack on Konsakhul village on Saturday allegedly by armed Kukis in which two village leaders were badly injured and hospitalised, ZUCM president Maibon Phaomei told media persons that actions of the Kukis against Konsakhul villagers was excessive.
The attack by armed Kukis left Konsakhul village chief Aimson Abonmei (55) and village chairman D Adam, (45) badly injured and both of them were admitted at RIMS hospital for treatment.

It is unjust for migrants to forcibly occupy land and later claim the land as their own, he said and cautioned that a more intense and broader conflict may flare up in near future between indigenous communities and the Kukis if the latter continue their excessive actions.
Terming Saturday's incident at Konsakhul as deliberate and dangerous provocation, Maibon Phaomei urged the Governor and chief secretary to take immediate action to identify the armed Kukis.
If the armed Kukis happen to be SoO cadres, legal action be initiated to stop such excessive actions in future, he said and warned that unwanted incident may occur if government fails to take action.
According to Maibon, ZUCM is fully committed to safeguarding interests and ancestral lands of indigenous communities of Manipur and want peaceful co-existence of every indigenous community.
However, there could be consequences that may escalate beyond control if migrant communities continue their excessive actions and government do not take action, he warned.
