Kangpokpi, February 28 2025:
Village Volunteers Coordinating Committee (VVCC) has set four non-negotiable conditions for disarmament and made an urgent appeal to the Government of India for taking up immediate steps to restore peace and ensure security for the Kuki-Zo community.
While acknowledging Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla's appeal for surrender of illegal arms, VVCC four conditions that must be met before any disarmament can take place.
In the first condition, VVCC demanded separate administration in Kuki-Zo areas in the form of Union Territory with legislative powers and for immediate withdrawal of Manipur police from Kuki areas.
In the third condition, the VVCC said that bringing back peace is impossible unless groups like Arambai Tenggol and others return weapons looted from state armouries.
The last condition the VVCC set was legal protection for Kuki-Zo village volunteers.
The committee reiterated that Kuki-Zo people are not a threat to national security but are fighting for justice, safety and long-term stability.
It also urged the Government of India to act swiftly and decisively and affirmed their willingness to engage in direct discussions for a peaceful resolution without third-party involvement.
Laying down of arms is not just about surrender but about ensuring justice and security for the people, the committee said and called upon the government to take immediate steps toward a sustainable peace.
