Imphal, April 05 2025:
All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs' Organisation (AMMPCO) expressed concern over the recently passed WAQF (Amendment) Bill, 2025, in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, stating that the Bill directly affects every Muslim in the country.
AMMPCO has called on all Meitei Pangals to stage democratic protests with slogans like "We oppose WAQF Amendment Bill, 2025," on Sunday.
Speaking to the media at its office at New Checkon on Sunday, AMMPCO president Hayatur Rahaman Yumkhaibam reminded that many have been pressuring the government since 2013 to uphold the respect for Muslim community while amending WAQF Amendment Act of 1995.He expressed disappointment that WAQF (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was passed in both houses of Parliament without any consultation with the Muslim community and stated that this action undermines the principles of democracy and is deeply concerning.
Rahaman highlighted that the Bill infringes on fundamental rights and religious matters for Muslims, urging the Governor to convey to the national leaders to review the Bill so that India progress in a secular way.
