Imphal, March 29 2019:
The Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) has strongly condemned the statement made by BJP spokesman and the party's candidate in Inner Manipur PC Dr RK Ranjan on a local TV channel on March 20 regarding report of the enquiry committee against Prof AP Pandey.
MUTA said that they had learnt the enquiry committee has submitted the report to the High Court of Manipur under seal and therefore the report remains under seal till date in the High Court.
Moreover, the case regarding Prof AP pandey is pending in the High Court of Manipur, said a press release issued by MUTA president Prof Lisam Shanjukumar.
However, Dr RK Ranjan said in public that he knew the finding of the report and claimed that according to the enquiry report, Prof AP Pandey is innocent.
The Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has also demanded an apology from Dr RK Ranjan on the issue before the public but he has not yet tendered any apology, it noted.
Some members of MUTA participated in the academic discussion with Rahul Gandhi on March 20 after receiving an invitation.
In the discussion, MUTA members put questions to Rahul Gandhi on the issues of improvement of higher education in Manipur and economy of the country and the North East region in particular.
It said that MUTA would participate in such academic discussion in future with any person or party if invited in the interest of general public.
The statement made by the BJP candidate has evoked apprehension among the public that the Government is doing all means to save Prof AP Pandey, MUTA remarked.
It then asked Dr RK Ranjan to come out with a clarification within three days on how he knows the report of the enquiry committee which is still under seal in the High Court of Manipur.
