Imphal, March 29 2019:
Chief Minister N Biren has categorically stated that people may vote for Congress party if the party can produce a white paper on how and where the MP Local Area Development Fund amounting to Rs 100 crore sanctioned through the two Congress MPs during the last 10 years were utilised.
If the white paper could not be produced, people ought to boycott the Congress party totally, he asserted.
A flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate in Outer Manipur PC HS Mate alias Benjamin was held today at his Tengnoupal residence.
Speaking at an election rally held at Tengnoupal Playground which was organised as a part of the flag hoisting ceremony, N Biren said that it is not desirable for the public to vote for the party which is a cause of misery for the masses.
India is still rated as a developing country, unable to reach the development target, he said.
Rs five crore is sanctioned to each MP every year for taking development projects and public welfare programmes.
As such, the two Congress MPs got Rs 100 crore during the past 10 years.
The Congress party should bring out a white paper on how and where this huge amount was utilised, Biren demanded.
"Let's vote for Congress party if they can bring out a white paper.
If not, the party ought to be boycotted totally", he asserted.
He went on to ask if the Congress MPs elected from Outer Manipur PC did anything for the eight Assembly segments included in Outer Manipur PC whose residents can vote but are barred from contesting Lok Sabha election.
Deriding AICC president Rahul Gandhi's promise to deposit Rs 72,000 every year in the bank accounts of economically weak families, Biren remarked that Rahul Gandhi's promise was akin to accepting the fact that Congress party overlooked the interests of common people when they ruled the country for 40/50 years.
On the other hand, BJP has been providing medical assistance of Rs 5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat and another Rs 2 lakh under CMHT to economically weaker households, he said.
Saying that the Congress candidate in Inner Manipur PC who is a retired IAS officer is involved in a CBI case, Biren questioned sources of the retired IAS officer's income/assets as shown in his election affidavit.
Asserting that the Congress candidate is a man of no principle, the Chief Minister asked what he (Congress candidate) would do if he gets elected.
Benjamin has been given the BJP ticket not because he belongs to Kuki community.
He was given the party ticket after thorough discussion by the party's Parliamentary board including the Prime Minister and the party president with the primary objective of protecting the country's integrity and bring about uniform development.
The Chief Minister went on to claim that Benjamin would definitely emerge victorious.
BJP Manipur Pradesh president K Bhabananda said that there was no question of nepotism or bribery in the process of selecting the party's candidates.
Party tickets were given to those individuals who have highest prospects of winning the election, he said.
He said that he would extend full support to the Chief Minister towards bringing peace and development in the State in case he gets elected.
