Imphal, April 02 2024:
While asserting that he will not run away from any challenges, INC candidate for Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency for the 18th Lok Sabha election professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has called upon people to demonstrate in the upcoming election that their voting rights cannot be compromised with money.
With the 18th Lok Sabha election round the comer, professor Bimol conducted his campaign at different parts of Bishnupur district on Tuesday.
Before launching his campaign, he offered prayer at Ibudhou Thangjing in Moirang.
Informing those gathered at the shrine that he is contesting the poll to contribute his mite in saving and protecting the motherland, the INC candidate declared that having faced various challenges posed by elements inimical to interest and integrity of Manipur, he will not betray the people when own blood and seven clans face challenge from any side.
He also opined that balkanising Manipur by providing financial assistance under the garb of development is unacceptable.
Professor Bimol continued his campaign at Nambol bazar where he shared to women vendors that the upcoming Lok Sabha election will be different from the past democratic exercises.
He said that the June 18 Uprising of 2001 took lives of 18 people but there was no restriction on movement of people unlike in the present crisis.
During the 2001 Uprising, mothers of Manipur made the people aware about the impending danger but the situation is even more perilous at present as the ethnic conflict has involvement of external elements, Bimol opined adding that people are well aware that they cannot cross Phougakchao Ikhai and Kanglatongbi not to speak about travelling to Moreh.
Expressing deep concern on the present situation, professor Bimol said the Meetei community will perish if they continue to succumb to money and muscle power in the upcoming election.
There had been many communal clashes in India but all such clashes subsided with in two/three days.
However, the ethnic conflict in Manipur continues to linger for several months underscoring sinister ploy to break apart Manipur, he maintained and appealed to the people to understand the motive behind prolonging the crisis.
According to professor Bimol, PM Modi personally visited and offered condolences when some people died due to collapse of a hanging bridge in Gujarat and also visited Odisha when a train accident occurred in the state.
However, the PM is still reluctant to visit Manipur when people of the state are suffering for more than ten months thereby deepening the suspicion that the PM has no concern for the people of Manipur, he added.
